The Holiday Makers is one of the most beloved titles of Michal Viewegh, without a doubt the most popular contemporary Czech author.  His books have sold more than a hundred thousand copies to date.

Among the tour participants, we see Jolana, a young woman who has decided to invite her parents, whose marriage is not exactly going very harmoniously, on a vacation.  “Jolana is a sweet, funny, fun girl who easily gets into relationships, but has a few problems with her appearance,” actress Anna Polivkova describes the character.  Anna Polivkova has appeared in a larger role, together with her father, the comedian Bolek Polivka, in the film Bolero.  In the Tour Participants, her film mother is played by Czech Lion award-winner Eva Holubova, the several-times on-screen wife of Bolek Polivka, for example, in the comedies The Trip from the City or Pupendo.  Bohumil Klepl plays Jolana’s father, who is “going through his mid-life crisis”

Two enchanting older women, played by Kveta Fialova and Jana Stepankova, also set out on the trip to Croatia.  Their characters combine nostalgia and memories of their youth with a more than sober view of their own uncompromisingly fleeting years.

The star of the bus trip is the undisputed musician Max (Ondrej Koval), who is using the trip to deal with a creative crisis and fatigue from short-term love affairs.  Perhaps because of this, he has set off with old friends, the homosexual pair Ignace (Jaromir Nosek) and Oskar.

The tour guide Pamela sees to the satisfaction of the tour participants.  “Pamela is very beautiful, very voluptuous, but very naïve, so she comes off sometimes as stupid,” says the model Jitka Kocurova, who plays the role of Pamela.
